Confirm this again by pressing the Volume Down button to highlight Yes, and then press the Power button to select it. So once we are at this Factory Data Reset page we will use the Volume down button to highlight the Yes option and then press the Power button to select it. I repeat, if you have already installed Bump!(like we just did with Flashify), selecting the Yes option will not erase any data on your LG G3. If you have Bump! installed already, then you don’t have to worry about this actually erasing your data. This will take you to a Factory Data Rest page. When you see the LG logo let go of both buttons for 1 second and then press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button again. Then hold down the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time. You can also do it the traditional way by turning off your LG G3 and making sure the micro USB cable is not plugged in. The first way is to keep Flashify on your smartphone and simply use that same option to reboot into the recovery when you need to. You can boot into the custom recovery in a couple of different ways. From here you can perform a backup, restore, wipe partitions, etc. That is it! Once you select this option you will see your LG G3 reboot and you will be taken into TWRP on your LG G3.

All of them have reported success in the original XDA thread linked below. It worked for me and it has worked with multiple variants of the LG G3. This optional method can literally be done in about 15 seconds. However, I found a way to do it much, much easier and a lot faster. I will link the XDA thread at the bottom of this article so you can follow through their released instructions if you choose to. I haven’t checked to see if restores work but there are multiple reports of successful restores in the XDA thread. Once I decrypted the device, I could boot into TWRP and perform my first backup. This was due to me having my LG G3 encrypted. When I first did it, TWRP wasn’t able to mount the partitions. I have unlocked my LG G3 with Bump! and everything seems to work smoothly. You will have to make this judgement call for yourself though.

They will not be releasing the source code to Bump! sadly ? but I think they have built up enough of a reputation to be trusted.

Flashing stock ROMs do not require root (as opposed to custom ROMs that with Samsung phones require a custom Recovery and root) so you then just get your phone working properly again, and then you can try to root it again. This team behind Bump! and Stump(Team Codefire) are well-known within the Android community and they are very active on XDA. In the event something got messed up with the Android OS on your S5 when you were experimenting with those one-click rooting apps, you can just re-flash it with a factory ROM. Using Odin (or Heimdall) you'll need CF-Auto-Root to do the rooting process: (Use the latest version, there isn't the same backwards compatibility issue as Odin) It's functionally similar to Odin but there are minor differences in the menu interface so you just need to be a little more flexible to do the same task.

Odin is a Windows utility so if you don't have access to a Windows PC there's also Heimdall, an Open Source alternative to Odin that's available for Linux, Mac, and Windows. If your Win PC can't 'see' your S5, no utility will be able to either.

Your phone won't be detected and won't mount properly by the OS without it.

You'll probably need to install the Samsung driver on your Win PC before you can even use Odin. Here's a link with each version, download and use the recommended version for your situation.

Common practice is to use the latest version of any software but with Odin there are issues relative to older hardware. Odin itself originally was a utility developed and used by Samsung internally, then later leaked to the public, and even though Samsung no longer supports it, Odin continues to be a community maintained project. Once you use one of those one-click apps there are security and privacy issues involved. Note that it is more involved than using one of those one-click rooting apps but with older Samsung devices you're much better off using the Odin utility running from a PC.
